Thanks If it’s a Springfield Armory M1A, it’s highly doubtful that you have a USGI barrel, unless it was changed out prior to you owning it. It probably says ".308" somewhere. USGI barrels are 7.62 NATO chambered, not .308, and it’s not as compatible with ammo, so they’re not too popular on commercial rifles. You could cut down your barrel, but you’ll discover you won’t be able to use the USGI flash hider because the splineways will have been lost. If this doesn’t bother you, then it’s pretty easy and you can use a Vortex or something to that effect. Depends on when it was made whether it has a GI barrel or not. Mine has a SAK barrel but it was made in the late 98 or 99. Southern_Raider

Possibly would considering the added length of the adapter after installed?

He is considering another upgrade using a side mounted light attached via pic rail and utilizing a tape switch for activation. I am personally against this idea. I am not a fan of tape switches and foresee durability issues with this setup. I am also concerned about the tape switch and wire staying put due to the fact that this area sees a lot of activity due to cycling the tactical shotgun.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

As someone who has shot Action tactical shotgun matches at nighttime, I’ll go out on a limb and say that a 600 Lumen head would do more harm than good for the ranges in which a tactical shotgun would be used. In my experience, anything from 100 -200 lumens is perfect for dealing with the contact-to-50 yard range.

Tapeswitch or not, he is considering putting an outdoor rifle flashlight head on a tactical shotgun that, at most, will be a 75 yard tool. If he turns on 600 lumens in close range indoors, he will likely blind himself in addition to the target…

Like a lot of the things here on ARF.com, the question comes down to how it is realistically going to be used. I want to step up to a semi and am looking at these two tactical shotguns right now. I currently run a Remington 870 Express Tactical that was originally bought for home defense. The only money I put in to it was a side saddle. I am not happy with the bead sight, 6+1 capacity, and length of barrel. The length of the barrel isn’t really an issue other than I want something a little longer just because. I figure if I am going to be getting a new tactical shotgun for 3-gun then I might as well go semi-auto. I am not looking to spend a lot of money because I’d rather use it on ammo to practice.

Both tactical shotguns seem like they would do the job perfectly with a little modding. I have read mixed reviews on the 930′s reliability but I think most of those issues have been worked out at the factory. The 712 looks nice but someone said it felt cheap. I’ll hopefully be able to hold one of each once I get to a gun shop but was looking for opinions on these two tactical shotguns first.

What model 930 do people buy for 3-gun? I don’t really want to buy the tactical shotgun and then have to buy a non-ported barrel on top of that. Any more opinions on the 712?

I have a older 712 and will say that is is a great field gun for birds. It has an alloy receiver so will have more felt recoil than the Mossberg 500 Accessories .

Hokie 10/31/2007 9:55:04 PM The 18" offers a little more barrel, but still 4" less than the full size. That, and it balances very well. It’s not too small if you’re using it right. The size of the tube is almost irrelevent if your shooting with both eyes are open. You’re not really aware of the tube, per se…. the red dot just appears to float over the target. Remeber that you don;t shoot with an RDS like it’s a scope. The size of the tube effects the viewing angle. This means you can pick up the dot quicker on a larger tube Aimpoint when you bring your rifle online from a low ready. The M4 is only fractions quicker than a T-1, but that might mean something to you. I think the shooter’s cheekweld is a bigger factor than what size Aimpoint. Generally I prefer the M4S to the T-1 and shoot just a bit faster with it, such as on my 10.5″ AR SBRs. And it’s not really about “losing the dot” in rapid fire drills, it’s about optical comfort. But on my M-92 Krinkov (won right here in the ar15.com ‘s raffle), I am consistently faster and more accurate with the T-1 vs the M2/3/4. And that is reguardless of handguard or receiver mount. Sometimes it’s just what you are comfortable with. This is just an awesome combination. Everybody that picks it up shoots the heck out of the targets with it. Prone, resting the fore end on the range bag,it’s almost unbelievable how fast you can pour it to a target.

Just got my first Aimpoint. Never looked through one before and just went for it. I’m happy overall with the clarity of the optics. Just one thing, though. I notice that (when looking through it) the bottom half of the glass along the perimeter has a lot of blue tint. I didn’t notice it until I looked through it at night in a dimly lit room. It’s as if the coating is thicker there. Is this normal or did I get a bad unit? mpj76 Apr 2002 USA FL, USA 229 : 0-0-0 : 6/2/2011 11:11:31 : 6/2/2011 11:13:16 by mpj76] Bump for response from any T1 owners. I know I could replace the pistol grip stock with a conventional stock and be back in compliance ( minus 1 scary item, Plus one scary item) But I do not want to, since I selected the Benelli M2 Accessories tactical for the PG. What other parts are available for the Benelli M2 Accessories to get my domestic parts count back up, and be compliant? *I have found some info on the M4, but this is a thread for Benelli M2 Accessories owners.
